The first presentation of the recently commemorated
Robert J. Lucas Memorial Scholarship was made by Bob's wife Bernie for
the Allegheny Plateau Association of Professional Land Surveyors. Secretary
Joe Kilbury brought Bernie to the conference for the annual NYSAPLS Awards
Ceremony, which was held during the 2002 Conference at the Best Western
Binghamton Regency in January. President Jim Ball explained the history
of the APAPLS scholarship and discussed why it was commemorated in memory
of Bob Lucas, then he called Bernie up to the podium to present the scholarship
to this year's recipient, William Kinne. Commemoraion of the scholarship
at this year's conference was especially significant since both Bob and
Bernie were originally from Binghamton.
